September 11 Cool-er hooks up with Google BooksPosted by: Jane Douglas Interread, the maker of the Cool-er ebook reader (left), has announced a partnership with Google to boost its online bookstore, coolerbooks.com. With the Google Books deal set to add about half a million free public domain books to the store in the UK, the company pledges to have more than two million titles available by the end of the year, making it “the largest ebookstore in the world”. “We’re extremely proud to be the first ebookstore outside the US to partner with Google Books,” says Interread founder Neil Jones. At a recent press event, Neil commented on the ongoing opposition to Google Books: “The Google books that we have are all on the out of copyright list so the Google Books settlement doesn’t affect the books we have at coolerbooks.com. “…But I think if the deal is done correctly, it can only benefit publishers and authors, particularly with slightly backlist titles that are out of print. I think there’s a big benefit for the both the publisher and the author in someone such as Google converting [such books] because they will earn money from books that would otherwise not be available.” Comments (5)
